Caring for and maintaining Mineral Core Board floors

Mineral Core Board floors are highly wear-resistant, needing minimal cleaning and maintenance over time. This is due to their TEKTANIUM® coating, a unique surface treatment 3x more resistant to scratches and stains than traditional protective coatings.

Regular day-to-day cleaning

Over time, joints and grout can gather dirt and allow bacteria to grow.

With our watertight GenClick® installation system, our Mineral Core Boards are waterproof without seaming or grouting. This prevents dirt buildup and stops bacteria from multiplying. Unlike real solid wood flooring and ceramic tiles, whose upkeep is much more demanding, you’ll only need a vacuum and a mop as part of a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule.

For lightly soiled floors, a quick sweep or vacuum should be enough. When mopping, use a damp microfibre mop and mix water with a small amount of all-purpose cleaner (pH 7-8), following the care package instructions. After mopping, rinse with clean water to remove any residue.

How to remove stains from Mineral Core Board

Cleaning scuffs and stains from your Mineral Core Board flooring is stress-free, thanks to its protective layer. Unlike natural materials, Mineral Core Boards do not absorb spills, making cleaning simple. If you happen to get anything on the floor, we recommend starting by spot cleaning with a damp cloth and some neutral detergent. The best method is to clean from outside the stain toward its centre and then rinsing and wiping down with fresh water.

Here are some helpful tips for dealing with different types of stains:

Oil, vinegar, wine, or citrus stains: use warm water mixed with a detergent for cleaning.

Ink and dark fruit stains: apply diluted alcohol directly to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Do not scrub. Finally, rinse with fresh water.

Pen and marker stains: clean these stains by rubbing a cloth with white spirit on the area, then rinse well with water.

Rust: use an anti-rust sponge and rinse with water.

Tips and tricks for pampering your floors

If you stick to a simple and regular cleaning routine, you'll find that your floors require little ongoing maintenance. Unlike wooden flooring, you don't have to worry about waxing, polishing, or excessive moisture. A simple clean with soap and warm water is all that is needed to keep them looking new. That said, taking a few extra care steps will help keep your Mineral Core Boards in great shape for years to come.

Use doormats: place doormats outside and inside your front door to reduce dirt buildup.

Use furniture felt pads: attach pads to furniture legs to prevent scratches.

Choose the right cleaner: use non-corrosive cleaning products that won’t harm the floor. Make sure they have the right pH, as stated in the care instructions.

Follow detergent instructions: use the recommended amount of detergent.

Clean spills properly: wash away spills to prevent stains.
